CANDY BOX REDESIGN

Every time I go to the grocery store, I’ve got to make a stop in the candy aisle. I’ve got a serious sweet tooth, but one thing that has always frustrated me about most candy box designs is that they prioritize showing off a single piece of the candy at the expense of the overall look. Because I love candy so much, I thought I’d take a stab at redesigning several of my favorites as a personal project, emphasizing key characteristics of the candies in my illustrations. I also used 3D software to create packaging mockups as well as animations to display my work.
SWEDISH FISH

Everyone's favorite seafood. My focus with this one was to draw from Scandinavian design, especially by creating a pattern that looks like many found in Swedish artwork and clothing. Beyond that, I made sure to include as many visuals related to fishing as possible while keeping the gummy look in the forefront on the fish!
Hot Tamales

These cinnamon-flavored candies are my favorite of the 3 here. I figured that the heat that this candy brings would make for some fire visuals...and I was right! In the brand's current packaging, flames are the only aspect of the design bringing the heat. My goal was to turn it up a notch and what's hotter than a volcano? I had a great time illustrating this one and finding a way to highlight a single tamale like many of these candy boxes already do.
M&Ms

Of the 3 candies I chose, M&Ms are by far the most popular and have a truly iconic brand. I wanted to make sure that some of the features of the current brand remained intact, so the colors of the candy along with the use of the ampersand carried over. I felt that playing off the circle shape of the candies could be a fun way to add some playfulness to the packaging and even provide a way to label the type of M&Ms included as well. The idea would be that the "Milk Chocolate" typography would be swapped with "Peanut", "Pretzel", or my personal favorite, "Caramel".
